Sonic4 - "Love-Struck: Vinyl Version" (7/10)
Review Date: (08/11/2024)
Ah... It seems controversial for me to review this album, but I
believe that it is one of the most iconic Sonic4 albums. It's also
impressive that he made it this early in his discography. This album
is about his romantic relationship with Yuri, and it mostly
contains warped love songs. He wants me to review the Vinyl version
instead of the original, because of the three new bonus tracks. I
don't think that it will be an issue when both albums are nearly
identical.
"You're the best baby" is very nostalgic to me. I don't know if it's
good or bad, but those times were crazy for him. It's a cover of
V/Vm's The Best Baby, because this album is an obvious parody of
Sick-Love. "I shuvva walked away" might have aged like wine. It
sounds like he is regretful of the fact that he had to deal with a
situation like that. "You belong to meat" is disgusting and creepy.
It's a song from the perception of an obsessed stalker. I wonder who
that stalker could've been... "I want your lard" is very creative
with its random and wacky effects. It shows you how even a regular
love song can sound crazy and horrific to him. "Falling in love with
you" is the first bonus track, and I don't remember it being in the
original. It's a very famous song, but it sounds less romantic and
more disturbing. "Too good to be true" is the second bonus track,
and I love it so much. It's the perfect representation of how
someone would feel like when they are head over heels for their love
interest. It's also a popular love song, but I like this version
more. "Keremblox's _____e (edit)" is a collage of Roblox music, but
it gets interrupted from time to time. It's meaningful when you're
aware of the fact that it's about their friendship being on the line
because of Yuri's obsession.
"Just the two of us xx" is very iconic, everyone knows that song. I don't know what is
wrong with it, but it fits in with the rest of the album. "Together
in electric drains (live)" is the third bonus track, and I remember
the context behind it. Sonic thought that him and Yuri were
attending the same school, and he wanted to play a song for her on
the last day of school. There must be a video of it somewhere.
Besides all of that, I absolutely love this song. It's a "banger",
as how they would call it. "Shine it again" is a short line
repeating over and over again, and it changes pitch over time. There
isn't much to say about it. "Hearts......." is also one of my
favorites. It's a warped break up song, and it sounds sadder that
way. "Baby come back, blame it all on me..." is a post
break up song, and it only gets higher in pitch over time. It's not
warped, unlike most of the songs in this album. The fading guitar
solo at the end was amazing, I love it. "Imagine (studio version)"
is a parody of the same song by John Lennon. He sings about how life
would be better if people weren't concerned with school and romance,
and it sounds sinister because of the warping.
This album is great, despite the controversy surrounding it. If
you're into music that sounds ill and deeply in love with someone to
the point of going to extreme lengths in order to make them love
you... This album is perfect for the situation. I also recommend V/Vm's
Sick-Love, which is the inspiration behind this album.
