The Outsider is regarded as one of my
"unimportant" side projects,
but it's
actually the most underrated. It all started
with a parody of
The Caretaker's Selected
Memories From The Haunted Ballroom.
Alice98 Test Records is known for parodying
V/Vm albums, and
I wanted to be the
producer for the second DANMAKU album.
I
thought I'd do a much better job with it
compared to Alice
by expressing my
sadness and insanity at the time.
For
the inspiration, I explored the massive map
of Gensokyo.
I explored many locations
for long periods of time, and made
songs
that accurately represent the feelings of
loneliness,
sadness, longing, insanity,
and fear that I felt. It also
took a lot
of technical work to accurately recreate
the effects The Caretaker used in his album.
The Outsider later became something much
more than
a one-off "joke" parody of The
Caretaker. The Hakurei
Border (MAETP
album) was a serious sequel to the
Alice98 parody album. The Outsider continued
his
journey across the cold and dark
representation
of Gensokyo, with the
album... Gensokyo.
Musically, it's
very unique and a perfect soundtrack
to
such a scenario. Dark, scary, and emotional.
